This is a remote role; however, preference will be given to candidates in the Ottawa area. The position also requires the ability to obtain Reliability Clearance.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for full-cycle accounting for Calian Contract Research Organization and analysis of financial results. The Senior Accountant assists in the preparation of financial reports and budgets. Under the supervision of the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring compliance with GAAP and IFRS requirements as well as legislative and corporate policies for Calian Contract Research Organization and affiliated companies.
Responsibilities
- Maintain all financial records, including preparation of journal entries, detailed general ledger account reconciliations, and day-to-day accounting functions including customer invoicing and collection
- Oversee the work of junior accounting staff, as necessary
- Supervise and ensure accurate recording of transactions, notes, etc. (i.e. AP/AR/Invoicing)
- Prepare monthly financial statements and complete monthly analysis and reconciliations of accounts
- Assist with compliance audits/reviews, as well as quarter and year-end reporting and forecasting
- Assist with financial reporting and special accounting projects as required
- Responsible for revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS
- Complete payroll administration on a bi-weekly basis
- Fulfill other duties as required
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting
- Experience with SAP or other ERP systems preferred
- Proficiency in Excel, including working with formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis
- CPA designation (completed or in progress) is considered an asset
- Must be eligible to obtain a Canadian Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
