The Royal Military College of Canada (RMC) is Canada’s national military university based in Kingston, Ontario. RMC has within its mandate the provision to carry out research and other forms of support for the Department of National Defence (DND) and other government departments.
Position Overview
Calian is seeking a Research Assistant to join the RMC Green Team, a multidisciplinary research group dedicated to sustainable infrastructure and environmental initiatives. The team has been working with the Department of National Defence (DND) to support military establishments across Canada. The role will focus on the operations of water and wastewater treatment plants, energy, and other environmental projects, with responsibilities in data analysis, technical report writing, and supporting the team on DND projects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct technical report writing and data analysis
- Perform literature reviews (research journals, policy documents, DND materials, and technical reports)
- Participate in team meetings and prepare presentations for meetings with supervisors and sponsors
- Conduct site visits to DND installations for performance evaluations of base facilities
- Assist other team members in completing tasks with tight timelines
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field
- Strong technical and report writing skills are essential
- Experience in water and wastewater treatment or relevant environmental engineering projects
- Proficiency with MS Office and other relevant software applications
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills
- Recent graduates with a degree in science or engineering
- Ex-military members with relevant degrees and/or military experience
- 2 to 3 years of experience in water-related projects (e.g., water and soil contamination, waste management, energy, policy)
- Familiarity with Federal and Provincial environmental regulatory frameworks
- Understanding of DND’s internal operations is an asset
- Strong interpersonal and public relations skills
- Ability to adapt to various situations quickly while adhering to deadlines
- Availability to travel approximately 20% of the time (fully compensated, including weekends if required) with a valid driver’s license

- Must be able to obtain Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
- Must be a Canadian Citizen
