Calian is seeking qualified Registered Psychotherapists (RP) to support a potential Mental Health Awareness Training program within a large urban transit environment.
Responsabilities
This role involves delivering clinician-led Mental Health Awareness, Crisis Intervention Awareness, and Self-Care training to enforcement and protective services personnel who work in a fast-paced, public-facing transit setting. Participants regularly interact with individuals experiencing mental health crises, emotional distress, suicidal ideation, homelessness, and substance-related challenges.
Training supplements core legislated content and is designed to provide clinically grounded, operationally relevant insight that supports lawful, proportionate, and empathetic responses.
- Deliver in-person Mental Health Awareness training to new recruits, experienced personnel, and supervisors
- Facilitate training programs ranging from one to three full instructional days, depending on audience
- Present content that is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and tailored to enforcement and public safety contexts
- Support scenario-based training by observing simulated mental health encounters and providing educational debriefs
- Contribute to training materials, course standards, and learning objectives as required
- Assess participant learning through written and/or practical evaluations
- Maintain attendance records and provide post-session reporting as requested
- Provide clinical insight related to stress management, resilience, compassion fatigue, and self-care
Qualifications
- Must be a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing, licensed to practise in Ontario with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)
- Must have a minimum five (5) years of experience delivering mental health, crisis intervention, or self-care training in enforcement, public safety, or comparable operational environments
- Must be fully fluent in English (speaking, reading, writing). Biligualism (English/French) is considered a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience as a practising clinician working with individuals experiencing mental health crises
- Experience providing consultation, incident review, or evaluative support in a public safety or enforcement context
- Strong ability to communicate clinical concepts clearly to non-clinical audiences
Additional Requirements
- Experience working with law enforcement, special constables, or municipal enforcement personnel
- Familiarity with public transit or other high-volume public environments
- Experience supporting scenario-based or judgement training involving role-players
- Knowledge of Canadian public safety legislation and discretion-based enforcement principles
Location and Level of Effort
- In-person delivery at training facilities within the Greater Toronto Area
- Sessions typically scheduled on weekdays during business hours, with occasional evenings or weekends based on operational needs
- Multiple training sessions may be delivered annually, subject to program requirements
