Position Overview

Calian Health is seeking Primary Care Nurse with interest in providing medical services to Canadian Armed Forces members in their exclusive outpatient clinic located on Canadian Forces Base Halifax in Nova Scotia. This role is ideal if you have an interest in treating the military population and enjoy working in a large, multi-disciplinary team setting.

This is a temporary contract ending in November 2025. Clinic hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm.

Responsibilities

  • Manage patient flow through the clinic to ensure patients are being seen in a timely manner based on the health care providers’ scope of practice.
  • Provide clinical guidance to clinic’s Medical Technicians related to direct patient care and nursing interventions.
  • Perform nursing clinical procedures such as health history and physical assessments, IV therapy, medication administration, dressing changes, blood pressure monitoring, specimen collection, and immunizations.
  • Oversee the clinic schedules including each practitioner’s schedule within the CDU to ensure efficiency and patient access.
  • Provide administrative guidance to clinic clerks such as patient tracking and managing patient inquiries.
  • Initiate collaborative practice meetings for patient care coordination within the clinic
  • Refer patients to other direct access health care providers to increase access to health services and improve patient outcomes.
  • Initiate the short-term home care requirements for members with an expected return to work date of less than ninety days.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Degree in Nursing with a minimum of 1 year of experience working within a primary care practice or ambulatory care environment
  • Licensed and in good standing with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses
  • Basic Life Support for Health Providers or CPR/AED Level C

Additional Requirements

  • You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
