Position Overview

Calian is seeking an Otorhinolaryngologist (ENT Specialist) to add to our clinical team working at the Canadian Forces Medical Centre located at the Montfort Hospital in Ottawa, ON. The ENT works as part of the multi-disciplinary team within the CF Clinic model where Otorhinolaryngologists provide higher level consultation and advice to the team. Otorhinolaryngologists receive patient referrals from the multi-disciplinary health care team and sees patients by booked appointments at the Specialty clinic for patient consultation and ENT examination. They also function as a part of the military operating room (OR) team in the civilian hospital during the designated military OR time to perform ENT surgery.

Responsibilities

• Perform a patient assessment using various investigative methods such as diagnostic imaging of the head and neck, immunologic and genetic testing, specialized laboratory testing including, biopsy and fine-needle aspiration, and vestibular and audiological testing in order to generate a diagnosis;
• Provide preventive and therapeutic interventions to prevent or address ENT related disorders, including counselling on smoking cessation, responsible alcohol use, ultraviolet A/ultraviolet B (UVA/UVB) exposure and protection, and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss;
• Provide pre-operative instructions and education to patients, surgical interventions, and post-operative care such as sedatives, analgesic, diets, antibiotics, and post-operative instructions;
• Develop a post-operative care and follow-up plan with the patient and the multi- disciplinary health care team to address patient’s health care needs including making recommendations on temporary or permanent impairment, restriction, and prognosis;
• Perform minor surgeries in the Specialty Clinic

Qualifications

• Licensed and in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
• Have a speciality certification in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC)
• Have a current Fellowship with the RCPSC
• Full hospital privileges at an acute care medical facility to perform surgery and deal with complications

Additional Requirements

• You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level

Le spécialiste ORL travaille au sein d’une équipe multidisciplinaire dans le cadre du modèle de clinique des FC, où les oto-rhino-laryngologistes fournissent des consultations et des conseils spécialisés. Ils reçoivent des références de patients de la part de l’équipe de soins de santé multidisciplinaire et voient les patients sur rendez-vous à la clinique spécialisée pour des consultations et des examens ORL. Ils participent également aux interventions chirurgicales ORL en tant que membres de l’équipe de salle d’opération militaire dans un hôpital civil, pendant les périodes désignées pour les opérations militaires.

Responsabilités

• Effectuer une évaluation du patient à l’aide de diverses méthodes d’investigation telles que l’imagerie diagnostique de la tête et du cou, les tests immunologiques et génétiques, les analyses de laboratoire spécialisées incluant les biopsies et les aspirations à l’aiguille fine, ainsi que les tests vestibulaires et audiologiques afin d’établir un diagnostic ;
• Fournir des interventions préventives et thérapeutiques pour prévenir ou traiter les troubles ORL, y compris des conseils sur l’arrêt du tabac, la consommation responsable d’alcool, l’exposition et la protection contre les rayons UVA/UVB, et la prévention de la perte auditive due au bruit ;
• Fournir des instructions préopératoires et de l’éducation aux patients, effectuer des interventions chirurgicales, et assurer les soins postopératoires tels que la prescription de sédatifs, d’analgésiques, de régimes alimentaires, d’antibiotiques, et les instructions postopératoires;
• Élaborer un plan de soins postopératoires et de suivi avec le patient et l’équipe de soins de santé multidisciplinaire pour répondre aux besoins de santé du patient, y compris formuler des recommandations concernant les incapacités temporaires ou permanentes, les restrictions et le pronostic ;
• Réaliser des chirurgies mineures à la clinique spécialisée.

Qualifications

• Être autorisé à exercer et en règle auprès de l’Ordre des médecins et chirurgiens de l’Ontario ;
• Détenir une certification en oto-rhino-laryngologie – chirurgie de la tête et du cou du Collège royal des médecins et chirurgiens du Canada (CRMCC) ;
• Être membre actuel du CRMCC ;
• Avoir des privilèges hospitaliers complets dans un établissement de soins aigus pour effectuer des chirurgies et gérer les complications.
