Position Overview
A Student Software Developer works as part of a team to develop and deliver software-based systems. They are starting their career, learning to work as a professional and work under general supervision. An Student Software Developer works under the general supervision of a Software Team Lead and the technical supervision of a Software Technical Lead. In the organization chart, they report to an Engineering Manager.
Responsibilities
Software Development Responsibilities
- Defines low level software designs and designs algorithms.
- Writes code and associated tests.
- Makes effective use of software development tools, like version control systems and build systems.
General Responsibilities
- Works as part of a team. Gets help from other team members. Accepts constructive feedback from team members about work output.
- Generally given specific instructions on assigned work and their work is reviewed while in progress and in detail for completeness and accuracy.
- Handles basic issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
- Possesses beginning to working knowledge of their technical area, e.g. general software solutions.
- Takes ownership of assigned tasks to ensure they are completed, e.g. doesn’t passively wait for answers or for people to review their work.

Qualifications
- Successful completion of three years in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Software Systems Engineering degree
- Proficiency in Java, JavaScript, C++, or Python
- The ability to integrate well into a team environment, to quickly solve complex problems and to easily adapt to new technologies
- You will have the ability to meet the requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
- You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level
