Position Overview

At Calian, our Nuclear Analysts play a key technical role in the performance of various projects within the Calian Nuclear team.

These Analysts/Engineers support various technical projects in the core areas of the group which includes: Nuclear Safety and Licensing, Environmental Protection, Decommissioning & Waste Management, Emergency Preparedness and Systems Engineering.

Calian is currently seeking a team-oriented Senior Systems Engineer (Analyst) to support Systems Engineering for the development and deployment of automated/robotic tooling and processes for Nuclear reactor applications, collaboratively with Calian peers and customer stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Perform and support scientific and technical project work for Calian Nuclear clients

• Guiding tooling development projects using the systems engineering development process

• Support the development of high-quality technical documents outlining research approach, development and testing procedures

• Supporting development of operations concepts, and conceptual engineering deliverables

• Establishing system-level requirements and interface requirements

• Developing detailed operations planning / storyboarding / COMS design considerations

• Building of process Failure Modes & Effects Analyses (pFMEAs), project risk assessments

• Preparing verification & validation plans, and documentation to capture results

• Participate, as part of a project team, in conducting technical analyses

• Cultivate and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and potential business partners

Qualifications

• Degree in Science or Engineering equivalent required; Nuclear, Space/Terrestrial, Aviation etc will be considered an asset

• 5-10+ years of experience in a similar capacity with a strong understanding of Systems Engineering practices

• Experience working on mission-critical projects

• A strong proficiency in mechanical, electrical and controls engineering

• Hands-on operational experience from working in the field within the nuclear maintenance or complex systems will also be considered an asset

• Ability to excel in a team environment with previous experience providing mentorship to other, more junior, team members

Additional Requirements

• Passion for innovation, problem-solving, and advancing the nuclear sector

• A strong working knowledge of all MS Suite programs (particularly Visio, Excel, Project and Word)

• Experience with CADD Modelling (particularly SolidWorks, will also be considered an asset)

• The ability to travel to client sites in the GTA (General Toronto Area) as needed as well as visit other sites such a Bruce Power (Tiverton, ON) a few times per month

• The position is a hybrid work location position, located primarily at Calian’s R&D facility in Mississauga, ON, with flexibility for work-from-home, project-permitting
