Position Overview

Reporting to the Manager, Employee Relations, the HR Advisor administers human resources policies and procedures relating to employee relations. This role has a focus in problem solving and encompasses a wide range of activities and processes aimed at creating and maintaining a positive and productive work environment as well as a consistent employee experience across Calian. This role analyzes HR data to make recommendations to management for corrective action and continuous improvement.

The HR Advisor contributes to the accomplishment of Human Resources practices and objectives that will provide an employee-oriented company culture that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, high performance and overall organizational excellence and values.

Responsibilities

Employee Relations:

  • Liaise with Human Resources Business Partners on employee situations of medium to high-level complexity (i.e. termination, legal complaints, retaliation, and other work-related issues); recommend appropriate resolution of complaints and monitor results.
  • Advise managers and employees on HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Conduct investigations and work with HR Business Partners on employee complaints and concerns.
  • Manage offboarding procedures, including exit interviews and documentation.
  • Support the HRBP through the performance appraisal process by assisting in the development of performance improvement plans.

Legislation, Compliance and Policies:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of HR policies and procedures. Acts as the subject matter expert on all HR policies, procedures and forms.
  • Stay informed about changes in employment legislation and update policies accordingly where Calian does business.

Advisory:

  • Works with employees and management to communicate various Human Resources policies, procedures, employment standards and government regulations within the specified guidelines.
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers and employees on HR related matters.
  • Act as a liaison “go-to” between all stakeholders; HRBP, HR Operation teams, employees and managers.
  • Fosters and maintains collaborative team relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of HR processes, procedures and programs.
  • Collaborate with other HR functions to ensure seamless employee experiences.
  • Drives informed decision making and process improvements by analyzing data to determine themes and trends and make proactive recommendations to either mitigate risk or improve HR processes and ensure a consistent employee experience.
  • Some roles may assist in corporate health and safety and health related programs that support the well-being of employees in the organization through best practices and knowledge of legislative requirements.

HR Projects:

  • Participate or lead projects related to employee experience as required.
  • Collaborate with other HR teams to implement changes seamlessly.
  • Contribute to HR projects related to process optimization and other initiatives.

Benefits Administration:

  • Assist employees with inquiries related to benefits, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and other perks.
  • Case manage complex WSIB / WCB claims and leaves of absence (LOA), following up on claims/LOA, case closure.

HR Administration:

  • Maintains the HRIS database (SAP) ensuring a high standard of quality and keeps employee records up to date by processing data in a timely manner. Obtains and verifies information for inclusion in employee records.
  • Provides support in functional areas of human resources, such as training, preparing correspondence and processing confidential documents.
  • Stay current on Calian’s employee programs.
  • Prepare HR reports and analyze HR metrics.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to HR processes.

Qualifications

  • 2 years’ experience in a broad range of Human Resources functions.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office programs (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Access is considered an asset).
  • Working knowledge of HRIS systems, SAP preferred.
  • A college diploma in a field related to the human resource profession such as Business Management – HR Management would be an asset.
  • Must be eligible to obtain a Canadian Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
