Position Overview

The IS Business Systems Analyst is an important role to bridge the gap between Service Line and Divisional Services day-to-day job responsibilities and technical solutions. Increasingly, the teams find it difficult to articulate the specific issues that are impeding their progress and scalability. A Business Analyst hosts detailed discussions around business problems, getting to the heart of the “why is this happening” and “what needs to be solved” questions. In the long run, this will shorten the continuous improvement cycle by collaboratively identifying, building, testing, communicating and implementing solutions.

Responsibilities

• Define business problems and primary objectives of new initiatives. Identify and validate key business requirements

• Analyze and model the business domain to create a complete picture of workflows and functional requirements fulfilled by existing and proposed software

• Advise on cross-functional continuous improvement efforts

• Create test plans and monitor the creation of test scenarios and scripts. Coordinate test cycles with the stakeholders, monitoring progress and resolving any roadblocks

• Prepare and maintain documentation of the tools to assist with application support and training, including but not limited to process flows, procedures, end-user manuals and training materials

• Improve systems and business processes by studying current practices; designing modifications

• Recommend controls by identifying problems; writing improved procedures

• Facilitate Lessons Learned debriefs at the end of a project cycle; track recommendations through to implementation

• Apply advanced business knowledge and advanced problem-solving skills to complex business problems in a variety of areas, including sales, proposals, finance, human resources, and contract administration

• Work independently or with team members to maintain and support business applications and solutions across multiple products within Calian’s application portfolio

• Create presentations including project overview and status updates

• Ensure that the above duties and responsibilities are performed following the principles and intent of Change Management as described in policy IS-0012 Change Management

Qualifications

• Post secondary degree in a related field, such as Commerce or Administration

• Experience with enterprise-level solutions ERP (SAP), CRM, M365 Productivity, Travel & Expense Management, Contract Lifecycle Management

• At least 3-5 years experience in a Business Systems Analyst or Business Analysis role solving business and process problems between different functions

• Experience with integrating cloud technologies

• Proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Visio

• Experience leading small projects and facilitating solution discovery discussions

• A clear sense of urgency to achieve results. A “can-do”, “let’s make it happen” attitude and a focus on a positive customer experience

• Effective verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated ability to find solutions to cross-functional business problems

• Time management and ability to handle multiple ongoing projects and responsibilities

• Exceptional attention to detail and committed to a high degree of accuracy. Must be able to gather, prioritize and analyze information skillfully

• High energy and drive to get things done with ability to handle multiple tasks

• Ability to develop business acumen to be able to translate business needs into technology solutions

• Ability to work co-operatively within a group and with colleagues at all levels of the organization
