Through the Health Care Provider Contract, Calian employs health care professionals across Canada who are integral to supporting the health and wellbeing of our military members.

Position Overview

We currently have 1 full-time position available at the CFB Trenton. In these unique roles, the Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (also known as Preventative Medicine Technician) is responsible for all occupational hygiene and safety concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Operating within a team structure, you will be reviewing the chemicals and personal protective equipment being used at the Canadian Armed Forces Base in industrial work spaces to ensure all health standards are adhered to.
  • You will liaise with leaders in different departments where occupational health and safety is a concern and must be monitored.
  • Using your strong collaborative and problem solving skills you will work with on-site leaders to implement protocols and processes to ensure the health and safety of individuals on the base.

Qualifications

  • A certification in occupational health and safety from one of the following: Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) with the Board of Certified Safety Professionals; or Registered Occupational Hygienist (ROH) or Registered Occupational Hygiene Technologist (ROHT) with the Canadian Registration Board of Occupational Hygienists; or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) with the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or Conseil canadien d’agrement des hygienists du travail (CCAHT)
  • A valid provincial drivers’ licence (while access to DND vehicles and drivers may be provided, Occupational Health Services Technologists should be prepared to use their privately owned motor Vehicle.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience delivering occupational health and safety services within an environmental health program as an Occupational Health Services Technologist; applying federal and provincial environmental health and occupational health and safety legislation; carrying out environmental or occupational health and safety investigations; and writing technical reports in the areas of environmental, occupational health, and safety.
