Calian has been selected as a contender to support the Belgian Army Simulation Centre (CSim). We are ready to deliver Belgian-built capabilities, underpinned by decades of experience supporting the Canadian Army, British Army and the wider NATO ecosystem.  

 The search has begun for qualified candidates to support this mission. We are looking for people who excel in the following domains: 

  • Management 
  • Technical 
  • Operational pedagogic

Who we are looking for 

• Former army officers, NCOs and enlisted personnel from any branch with solid operational understanding
• Branch 3 experience is an advantage for lead roles
• Simulation experience is a plus but can be learned on the job
• Ideal for those who are leaving or have recently left the army 

Not all roles require military experience. Remote and in-person opportunities are available. 

All applicants must be able to obtain a Belgian SECRET security clearance.

Join the Team
Management personnel oversee the optimal functioning of the company and different teams. In addition, management acts as the point of contact for Belgian Defence’s technical authority and provides contract-wide leadership and governance for all simulation system activities.  
Typical responsibilities include:  

  • Managing all personnel (core staff and independent contractors) 
  • Setting priorities and assigning tasks to subordinate managers 
  • Coordinating training support with Belgian Defence/CSim stakeholders 
  • Overseeing onboarding and HR administration 
  • Ensuring compliance with corporate policies and financial controls across the contract 
  • Coordinating exercise and resource planning 
  • Collaborating on corporate governance 
  • Backfilling operational leadership, as needed 
Skills 

  • Strong organizational and leadership skills 
  • Human resources policy knowledge 
  • Comfort with finance and contract administration (required for some job openings) 
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement and support change management in a training/simulation environment
Technical personnel operate and sustain the CSim’s digital and live simulation ecosystems and the underlying IT infrastructure. 
Typical responsibilities include:  

  • Network administration 
  • Hardware configuration and lifecycle support 
  • Licence/software management 
  • Helpdesk operations 
  • Documentation (e.g., SOPs/network diagrams) 
  • Integration/setup/troubleshooting for simulation toolsets such as VBS4, Steel Beast Pro, MASA SWORD and Duel Sim 
  • Designing, configuring and revising scenarios 
  • Delivering user/refresher training 
  • Producing scenario briefs 
  • Coordinating OEM/vendor support with CSIM representatives—often across multiple sites  
Skills 

  • Course and training instruction 
  • Project and personnel management (for lead roles) 
  • Network configuration and monitoring 
  • Hardware deployment 
  • Operating systems (Windows/Linux) and directory services 
  • Hands-on troubleshooting of simulation software and peripherals 
  • Familiarity with gaming/simulation interfaces (asset for operator/expert roles) 
Operational pedagogic personnel design, develop and deliver the training content and exercise architecture that enable individual and collective training. 
Typical responsibilities include:  

  • Coordinating and leading scenario writing boards 
  • Maintaining scenario databases 
  • Integrating scenarios into simulation systems 
  • Serving as Belgian Defence/NATO doctrine subject matter experts and review authorities for scenarios and orders packages 
  • Planning/controlling exercises (e.g., MASA SWORD/CST and Duel Sim) in concert with the primary training audience and other stakeholders  
  • Assigning tasks to subordinate personnel 
  • Managing independent contractors who support exercises and events (hours, pay coordination, discipline) 
  • Supporting AARs and lessons learned 
  • Performing role-player functions across warfighting areas (e.g., manoeuvre, fires/JTAC, engineers, ISTAR/recce, intelligence, EW, PSYOPS, CIMIC, CSS, CIS, air/aviation, SOF)  
Skills 

  • Deep understanding of Belgian Defence/NATO training systems, doctrine and orders formats 
  • Ability to translate training objectives into coherent scenario design and executable exercise plans 
  • Domain-specific knowledge (e.g., ISTAR, fires planning, EW/PSYOPS/CIMIC/CSS/CIS, air/aviation, SOF, DATE/OPFOR) for SME and role-player positions
